When a doctor loses everything and is forced to start over, he finds himself in a strange town filled with addiction and mental illness. Dr. Aaron Rovsing, Family Practice Physician, is fired from his medical practice in Connecticut because of alleged incompetence. After he flees and starts over in a town in East Texas, he discovers that things are not as they first appear, and soon Aaron must combat the deranged and addicted minds of the townspeople. Events take an even deadlier turn when he finds himself the next chosen victim of a serial killer who plans to add the doctor to his collection of skeletons. In this town of insanity and with a serial killer waiting to strike, how can Aaron manage to stay sane . . . and alive?

Fractured Eden edition by Steven Gossington Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

A fascinating twist on the usual conventions of thrillers and suspense novels. There's murder and mayhem aplenty in this tale of a doctor accused of malpractice seeking a new life and maybe redemption in a small East Texas town, but the struggles and confrontations between good and evil are more spiritual than physical. I loved the way that Gossington weaves in supernatural elements that the central characters either dismiss as the colorful delusions of the mentally ill or miss altogether. Is that fleetingly glimpsed white haired woman a ghost? Maybe the dead wife of a fellow who befriends the dco? And is that guy perhaps a ghost himself? Or an angel? Beyond the entertainment value -- and there's plenty of that -- the book seems to be asking us to consider the unseen forces that shape our lives. And it was refreshing to see a love story that dispensed with the bodice and boxer ripping so prevalent these days to depict a growing meeting of kindred adult souls.

Fractured Eden edition by Steven Gossington Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Book starts out very interestingly. But then. ouch! The first mention of a nurse by the main character, a physician, is that two nurses are walking & giggling in the hospital. I have spent decades in hospitals & have never seen two nurses walking & giggling. Frankly, they don't have time for just walking & giggling. At least the hero relied on information given him by his experienced office nurse. Engaging plot with a bit of supernatural (ghost?) thrown in. Like reality, not always sure if an event or a perception if of the supernatural or one's own imagination. Very accurate and engaging descriptions of the psychological issues faced by families & patients. Naturally the physician is the hero who saves a patient from certain death and probably will get the girl.
At first I thought this book had no direction and the characters and every small intersection story wasn't so cohesive or was all over the place. But if you read through the whole book only can you truly see the entire novel for its truth. Aaron's purpose was to move away from a place where he wasn't appreciated to a place where he can find himself through appreciation. Everybody he met through his tribulations and trials in this country setting has set him on a path to righteousness in life and in their deaths. I don't know about Grant Belkin, and whether he's an angel or a clairvoyant but he was a shining light in helping Aaron. I see why the book is called Fractured Eden, because Aaron thought of the town as the Garden of Eden but it has plenty of broken parts that need fixing including himself.
I really enjoyed this book. Having lived with family that suffers from mental illness, I was curious as to how the author would present it. I guess all of his years as a doctor seeing it first hand really helped him to present it in a very real way. There were also some plot twists and surprises along the way which made me want to keep reading. I read it very fast and now I want to go back and read it again. Much like watching a movie a second time and discovering things you had missed on the first viewing. I highly recommend.
Thank you for this most interesting story about Dr. Aaron and the strange happenings in his new town. I found the storyline and the many characters to be exciting and sometimes even scary. I look forward to reading more of your work.
The plot was a good idea, however the writing seemed aimed at a young teen audience who are Christians. It didn't give much background info on the characters. The 1st woman he liked, became unavailable, so he just latched onto the nearest next candidate with no info to the reader as to why her? Some episodes in the book were ended with no warning.
Fractured Eden is a unique mystery/thriller with psychologically-challenged characters and paranormal elements which add layers to the storyline. With each chapter and as the story unfolds, I found myself pulled in more and more by Dr. Rovsing's experiences. The author does a great job of making the reader think, and question, what could be happening in this small Texas town. A great find, I couldn't put my down.
Unlimited, interestingly odd all around in the one book, the other one well hospitals and doctors are weird some more than others. Noticed a 3 star that said ''good but not agatha christie'' and my thoughts were duh and then go read agatha christie.Christie today would be in mystery/cozy. Sure could maybe be tightened up in places, what book couldn't, according to each reviewer's personal preferences.Read them back to back, as writer only has the 2 out, so far, but that and the stars should tell you something. I believe the writer has a medical background, but didn't overly notice any confusing medical terms so that was nice too. This one was a bit darker than the other one but ok.
